Transport Improvements

Key projects Nick wants advanced in the next three years are the Hope Bypass, the new bus hub, the East-West Cycleway and a new link road between Suffolk Rd and Hill St North. I will also advocate for further work to improve the resilience on the Rocks Rd section of State Highway 6.

Nelson iSite

The rebuild of tourism is vital to Nelson’s economy. Council was mistaken in 2021 in closing the city’s iSite. My ambition is to reopen it in a new format. I also want Nelson to step us it’s tourism promotion, particularly for domestic visitors.

FUTURE PLANS

Scenic view of a marina with sailboats docked, a palm tree in the foreground, and mountains in the background under a partly cloudy blue sky.

UNESCO Craft City

Nelson’s strong arts sector deserves to be internationally recognised and Council, with community support, should formally apply to UNESCO for city of crafts status. I see our creative sector as a key part of Nelson’s identity.

Environmental Initiatives

Nick is keen to extend the soft plastics kerbside recycling scheme that was trialled this term. He wants Council to advance practical and affordable climate change initiatives like putting solar panels on Council buildings and supporting EV’s with further charging stations across the city.

Waterfront Redevelopment

A key priority this next term will be Nelson’s beautiful waterfront. Council owns a dozen vacant properties around Haven and Rocks Roads area and it’s time this area’s potential was realised. The goal is more space for the public to interact with the Port and to enjoy the sea.
